Numerical aptitude test
Numerical aptitude test questions are probably the most common type of aptitude test and this
is one type you will most certainly face at some stage in your life. Some of you might actually
be dreading the numerical aptitude. But do not worry since the numerical aptitude test really are
something you can prepare for and consequently improve your test score. It is amazing how
many people still think that you can't improve your score in aptitude tests through practicing.
The old belief that you have to be a very clever person to pass these tests with a high mark still
prevails for some reason. But this isn't the case at all. You will be amazed, and we mean
amazed, of what kinds of improvements you can achieve by going through the databases we
have set up for you. Practice really does make a difference and that is the main point we are
making here.
By practicing on our numerical aptitude test questions, you will get used to the types of
questions that you might face and you will also be able to pinpoint your areas of weakness that
might need more practice. This requires of course that you take an active part in the whole
testing and preparation process. Remember that numerical aptitude tests are an opportunity for
you to display your ability and potential so you should make the most of them.
Numerical aptitude tests are timed and they test how accurately and quickly you can work under
a deadline. Usually you are not allowed to use a calculator but this may vary. You are though
allowed to use empty paper given to you where you can write down things that might help you.
The tests usually have multiple answers but this doesn't have to be the case. It is also VERY
important that you follow the instructions to the letter. You do not want to lose out on an
opportunity just because you haven't followed the instructions. In many cases your answers will
be read by a computer which means that your answers really have to be indicated properly or
they might be misread. I.e. follow the instructions to the letter.
There are a few different types of numerical aptitude test questions that you might face. The
tests can include graphs, charts and tabulated data and then you as the test taker have to find
the answer by analyzing that information. Or you might get general mathematical tests
including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. In here you might also face some
word problems and number sequences.
Some examples of these are shown below
What is the missing number?
56 / 7 = ? - 5
A. 11 B. 13 C. 14 D. 12 E. 15
Answer: B. 13
This is because 56 divided by 7 is 8. What minus 5 equals 8? Add 5 to 8 and you get 13.
What is the missing number in this series?
6 7 5 8 4 9
A. 11 B. 10 C. 2 D. 5 E. 3
Answer: E. 3
This is because there are two series here. One is 6, 5, 4, ? and the other is 7, 8 and 9. Missing
number is 3.
What is the missing number in this series?
1 4 10 19
A. 33 B. 31 C. 30 D. 28 E. 29
Answer: B. 31
This is because the first difference between 1 and 4 is 3. The following difference between 4 and
10 is 6. The original difference of 3 is just always added by 3 so the differences are 3, 6, 9 and
the last is thus 12. Add 12 to 19 and you get 31.
A barn has a side wall of the dimensions shown above. Calculate the area of the wall in square feet.
A. 90 B. 100 C. 75 D. 120 E. 72
Answer: A. 90
First calculate the bottom area i.e. 6 times 10 = 60. The top one is 12 - 6 = 6 -> 6 times 10 =
60 which should then be divided by 2 which equals 30. 30 + 60 = 90 square feet.
